Bernie vs. Bernie-Pyer Moss Spring/Summer 2017 Collection
Bernie vs. Bernie aka Sanders vs. Madoff was the premise for the Pyer Moss Spring/Summer 2017 show, an expose of trending socioeconomic issues. Cyrus Aaron opened the show with a beautifully raw spoken word piece. Aaron touched on everything from the prison pipeline, gentrification, and economic inequalities, holding the audience at attention. Melodic piano keys by Austin Millz played softly over the harsh reality that Aaron poetically reminded us of. The message came across loud and clear, the stage was set and the runway presentation began.
“I heard that fashion repeats, but whose coin dictates style” -Cyrus Aaron

The message was gracefully intertwined
and resonated within the pieces. The uniforms of Wall Street banker
types was typified. Pinstripes and double-breasted coats mingled with
a relaxed sportswear aesthetic. For the girls dimensions were played
with. High-waisted pants gathered at the waist cinched with belts,
while trench coats stopped above the navel layered on top of
over-sized button down dress shirts. For the boys moto style coats ran
through the show in shiny metallic, another in a deep purple peeking
out from under a classic trench. Re-invented classics. Literal
meanings of the underlying message came down the runway as printed
images on shirts of Madoff being hauled off. The word GREED stood
loud and proud across the front of a black lace sweatshirt and varsity-like
jacket.
