Hotel Figueroa Downtown Los Angeles, CA
I have a love-hate relationship with Los Angeles. I love this city, love the weather, the people, the food but hate when I have to leave. Another thing I love about LA is the abundance of stylish hotel options. With a last-minute trip to LA and a need to be downtown, the Hotel Figueroa pranced through my mind. I stayed here previously when it was still under its Moroccan-themed demeanor. The hotel has since undergone a renovation, and I was curious to see if I liked this latest LA facelift.
Hotel Figueroa opened in 1926 when most hotels required a women traveler to be accompanied by a male. The YWCA, one of the largest women's organizations in the nation dating back to 1850, opened the hotel as a haven for solo female travelers. The new decor is a nod to the hotel's history, a combination of Spanish colonial with a modern LA twist.
We thought we would be in Los Angeles for a quick two-day trip. This two-day turned into two weeks, and the Hotel Figueroa proved the perfect place for our extended stay. I would describe the hotel as a microcosm as they have created their own world within this bustling yet serene downtown space.
The expansive lobby sets the tone for one of the perfect places to get work done during the day and unwind with a cocktail at night. Spotting a print of Estevan Oriol's that I've loved forever, solidified Hotel Figueroa's decor decisions.
The hotel lobby houses a bar and restaurant, Cafe Fig. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner Cafe Fig offers an eclectic menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. A popular eatery drawing a crowd outside of hotel guests, the menu also offers vegan options, a plus in my book. Make sure to book a reservation for brunch on the weekends as it gets busy.
Keeping up with its feminine roots, Hotel Figueroa also features an art gallery showcasing talented Los Angeles female artists. The featured artist for 2021 is Shyama Golden, an LA-based artist with a background in oil painting and graphic design and a knack for color.
There is a renaissance going on in downtown Los Angeles its trickled into the doors of Hotel Figueroa. The hotel is set to open another restaurant and bar adding to the all you need under one roof vibe going on. I'm anticipating a return visit to Hotel Figueroa and an extended stay in one of my favorite cities, The City of Angels.
