Escondido Hotel Oaxaca, Mexico
When traveling, finding the perfect place to stay is, in my opinion, crucial to the trip. There's nothing like returning from a day's adventures to a spot that invites you to unwind, relax, and be pampered—enter Escondido Oaxaca.
I instantly noted and fell in love with the decor—intentionally minimal, with every piece artfully beautiful and purposefully placed. I remember saying that I wanted my house to look like this: blush-colored walls, pale brick floors, and washed terra cotta planters with blooming greenery set the scene for what ended up being a phenomenal stay.
The suites echoed the calming minimalist vibe, with decor details that felt well thought out—from lighting fixtures to shower tiles—contributing to the comfortably chic ambiance. Our original plan was to stay for three days before heading to the next city. However, the magnetic pull of the city, combined with the magic of the hotel, extended our stay to six days. We spent our first few days in a suite with sliding glass walls that created an open-air experience, surrounding us with greenery. Our second suite offered spaciousness and light with 20-foot ceilings. The design seamlessly integrated the outdoors with a sunroof that provided a view of the pool level above, while bamboo covered the glass ceiling, beautifully filtering the light.
The hotel offers plenty of areas to lounge. An inner courtyard with tables turned out to be the perfect spot to catch up and get work done. The central water fountain provided a soothing soundtrack of flowing water. Adjacent to the courtyard was a gorgeous indoor-outdoor lounge area, featuring a beautiful brick archway, comfortable couches, and pottery that lines the space.
The rooftop pool is where we laid down a wealth of time soaking up the sun. With views of the mountains on the horizon, it was the perfect place to sip mezcal cocktails, take a dip, order lunch, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city below.
We spent our mornings sipping soy lattes and enjoying breakfast at the quaint on-site restaurant. Our stay included a continental breakfast that didn't disappoint. On days when we wanted to lounge and avoid searching the city for a restaurant, we dined at the hotel. Both the food and the service were phenomenal.
A hotel with beautiful design and a high level of comfort is a recipe for a great stay. When you mix in superb service, it's the icing on the cake for a memorable experience. The staff went above and beyond. From helping with dinner reservations to booking our next charter flight, they didn’t hesitate to step in to ensure we were well taken care of. Escondido Oaxaca made this long-awaited visit extra special and is now firmly on our must-return list.
