The Pink Palace of the Pacific, Our stay at the Royal Hawaiian, Waikiki
When I was pregnant, it felt like a broken record hearing that I wouldn’t be able to travel as I did before or that traveling with a baby would be difficult. We decided early on that, although our travel dynamic would change, it wouldn’t stop us. So here we are, just returning from a trip we planned at the last minute. By "last minute," I mean we decided to go to Hawaii on a Thursday and were on a flight by Friday morning. A separate post about traveling with our literal bundle of joy is coming soon. This post is dedicated to the hotel we chose. Nothing seemed more perfect than taking our little prince to the “Pink Palace of the Pacific.”
The Royal Hawaiian, which opened in 1927, was built on land once home to King Kamehameha. The hotel was constructed in a Spanish-Moorish style that was popular at the time. Its distinctive pink hue was influenced by Portuguese architectural design. It quickly became a glamorous destination for those who could afford the luxury and sought adventure.
The Pink Palace is situated beachfront in Waikiki, offering panoramic views of the iconic Diamond Head. The beach is bustling, and the turquoise water is inviting—perfect place to tan the day away. It's best to reserve lounge chairs and signature pink umbrellas provided by the hotel. With our time at the beach limited by having a 5-month-old, the pool became our next option. The pool, located beachside, offers restaurant service and shade from the palm trees. Rio thoroughly enjoyed hanging out in the cabana—such a fancy baby!
The hotel grounds are lush with tropical flora. Morning walks through the garden areas with Rio were peaceful and relaxing. Morning yoga, one of the many activities offered at the hotel, takes place in the garden beneath the large, beautiful Banyan tree. There was no better way to start the day than with the sounds of birds filling the air while breathing into yoga poses.
